Over 50% Funded After First Day

    by garrettmartin » Thu Mar 31, 2016 2:38 am

    Hello Everyone!

My name is Garrett and I have officially launched my first Kickstarter campaign! We have already received over 50% of our funds after just our first day!

My campaign is a project that is aimed towards inspiring travel across the globe. Too many people are held back from traveling whether it's money, time, fear or some other reason. Not enough people are truly experiencing this world and that is what has inspired me to create this travel documentary.

I will be filming my friend, Miranda, as she hitchhikes across the second largest country in the world, Canada, from coast to coast. We will be traveling by hitchhiking, couchsurfing, staying in hostels, camping and all forms of budget travel to show you don't need tons of money to explore this world. Along the way, we want to show people the real reasons behind travel and why it's so important. We also want to get rid of some common travel misconceptions and help people overcome the excuses that stop them from traveling.

We would appreciate any and all support that we can get. Please check out our campaign to learn more and come join the travel movement!

Wow that's incredible! Congrats! You're in good shape to generate some early momentum for your campaign. I think it'le be really cool to show some ways to travel affordably. Some people don't take vacations or escapes for years and years because of excuses. I think it's a good mission! I do think it's going to come down to a lot of reaching out to each of the networks of the individuals involved in this film. Maybe there is some way you could incorporate the help of a small travel or travel-focused company/blog/website to give them some exposure in exchange for some support.

Thank so much for the comment! Our trip is focused on budget travel and showing people how to travel cheaply so hopefully we can inspire those people. I completely agree with you though and that's some great advice! I will definitely look into contacting some small travel companies and blogs to hopefully do something to benefit the both of us. Really appreciate the feedback!

Congratulations on having such a great first day! :) My family never traveled much and I really want to start soon. I'm Canadian and I've only been to Ontario and Quebec so I'm looking forward to watching your documentary for some inspiration!

Do you have any advice for other creators on how to start strong on Kickstarter?

Thanks so much for the support! I really appreciate it and it means a lot. I'm extremely excited to visit your neck of the woods and hopefully I can inspire you to explore more around you area too!

As far as starting off strong on Kickstarter, I think having a decent following before you launch is definitely the most crucial. If you have a following on social media and people are aware of what your project is and know that it will be launching on Kickstarter that is extremely helpful. We have been able to start off strong because of significant donations from friends and family and that has helped out a really lot. It's important to have a Facebook page, website, blog or something that people can follow to help learn about your project and what your doing so when you launch your project donations come in really quick.

It's all about building a buzz beforehand!
