Is it okay to discriminate against buyers in some countries?

    by WilliamKF » Mon Nov 30, 2015 10:33 pm

Shipping single items of our product internationally appears to be very costly. We were thinking that perhaps we could open up shipping for the rewards that have less discount? For example, we have some rewards that are priced to reflect a 40% and 30% discount off the expected suggested retail price, but would be losing money if we didn't have a huge shipping cost to countries outside a few we have worked out efficiently. Perhaps we could offer $35 shipping to anywhere in the world at our 15% discount pricing level? The $35 fee would defray some of our shipping costs, and we could eat the additional costs in the lower discount pricing.

Would this be considered acceptable behavior on Kickstarter? Has anyone ever done anything like that before? We don't want folks to be turned off, but we would like to find a way to offer shipping internationally.

Please provide your thoughts and any alternatives we may not have considered already. Our product weights about 5 lbs. and fits in a box about 8"x8"x20".

    Hi William!

I know it sounds harsh, but no matter what you choose to do you will encounter problems with the community. If you introduce worldwide shipping, people will complain that it is too expensive, but if you don't, people will complain because they can't buy one where they are from. If it is possible, choose the latter and introduce worldwide shipping as it gives backers choice.

I think a $35 shipping cost anywhere in the world is reasonable and I don't see anything wrong with it. The important thing is to make sure you are honest and open with your backers/customers when asked about the high shipping cost. If that is the best you can do then go for it :)

    Cheers mate!

Hi, You can list the shipping fee from country to country. When your customer would like to order one, they will pay for you the shipping fee. Or you'd better find anothe cheaper shipping company.
