    Launched our first project!

    by jubeinnovations » Wed Oct 14, 2015 4:37 am

    Hello,

My name is Eric and I'm the creator behind our campaign, the Ellipti Comb. http://kck.st/1GALhyE

It's been a few years in the making for us to finally bring a product to a platform like this. A few years ago we met with some intellectual property lawyers, met with a few manufacturers, and attended a few venture capitalist meetings on a completely different product.

Through all of our learning and development, we finally felt it was time to launch a Kickstarter campaign on one of our ideas. We chose this product because we felt it's the most ready for market and that we could learn a lot from it.

Well, a few days into our campaign and we are learning a ton. Mostly about social media, the numerous outlets for trying to promote your campaign, and the fact that we might not of been quite as prepared as we thought. We spent a lot of time tweaking the campaign page, videos, and photos but not much time on anything else. We did our research ahead of time and read about the importance of prepping your social media outreach and networking. I did take the time before to set up Twitter and start linking up with some of the pages that might be influential in our area. But, it is obvious now that we could have and probably should have done a lot more of building up the campaign prior to launch.

It's only a few days into our campaign and the pledges have slowed drastically. So we are going to try a few changes and continue our outreach. Hopefully, in 25 days we will have a fully funded project!

Looking forward to learning here on the forums and sharing more of our experience for others as well!

    -Eric

    Hi Eric,

Great campaign! I wanted to add the link to your page as it wasn't noticable in your post:
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ju ... oject_link

Ok onto the page. To be honest, I wasn't impressed at first...I just saw a comb in different colours.

What changed my mind was the "Test of Time". The differences are small but it's significant.
    - Quick question, how does it look for longer hair?
    - Can it be used as a tuck comb to keep hair out of your eyes, so it acts as an accessory too.
    - How strong is it?
    - Can be used to control nits/bugs in hair? The black would be useful for this
    - Washable? How long can it last for?

I think the "action shots" of it in the background are effective too.

Let me know if you need help promoting your campaign and/or publicity from our gift ideas site.

    Hey Gifts,

Thanks so much for the reply. I appreciate the constructive feedback, and we actually agree with a lot of your points. We are going to try and get some better shots with the hair, as well as different uses in the hair and see if that adds to the value of the campaign.

I'm not sure if you were looking for answers to those questions, or just using them as examples to add in our page. Either way, great input and we will try to incorporate it for sure.

Otherwise, today was our worst day yet with only 1 backer the entire day. Coincidentally, we changed our thumbnail picture last night and am wondering if maybe we made a mistake?

    Thanks again!
    Eric

Thanks. Yes I was giving them as examples/points others make think of when they enter the page.

I think "The Test of Time" should be your first photo really. Photos are important, I think you could improve them perhaps with better filters?

I'm also wondering if you should have a $29.95 tier too? The highest tier is popular, but say 5 combs (and a wallet?) would be good.

You could target schools, kids, hairdressers, even the older generation (who have hair) would appreciate this kind of product.

    Gifts,

Thanks again for the feedback, it has been very useful.

We finally added a few more photos to enhance our "Test of Time" section. We will be adding a few more this week with additional hair types and purpose for the comb.

Also, we did add a FAQ section with some of the examples you mentioned. Unfortunately, up to this point we actually haven't had any backers or potential backers ask any questions. It seems that the few people that view the page and watch the video, tend to like it overall. I think we just need to add a few more clips to the campaign page and more importantly try to drive more traffic at this point.

    Again, we appreciate the help!

Good morning Guys. You have my support. I like your campaign, and your product. Good for you for getting this figured out.
Every time I get a haircut, someone tries to give me a nice smooth combing. Maybe the Pro's will learn from you, and buy from you too! My best wishes for a successful campaign, successful business, and fulfilling life. Don Clark

    Don,

Thanks for the positive feedback on our project. So far we have received many compliments from those that have seen the product up close or have used it. Now, if we could get it in front of more people that would be a huge help. Plus, we could probably still add more content to the campaign showcasing the product more. But, that's what we are learning thus far being our first campaign.

    Thanks!

This is actually a pretty cool idea! I never thought much about innovating on the comb -- it's just one of those things that we all use every day and never really question whether or not it could be better. I think that this is definitely something people would use if the word got out there.

I agree with what seems to be the general consensus on this thread so far; the test of time photo was definitely what sold me on it. I'd also venture to say that the difference between the traditional comb and your project is (at least to me) far more visible on men than it is on women. Obviously you guys have done far more research on this than me, but I would think that maybe men should be your primary market with women being more of a secondary priority.

Overall, I think the idea is good and the campaign looks good. Like you said, just need to find ways to get it out there! Good stuff!

    Alex,

Thanks for the positive feedback on our campaign! We have noticed that most people don't really tend to get it, until they see the test of time section and comparison photos.

That's why we've continued to add more photos. We are also planning on making a second video this week on site in a barber shop. Hopefully, with the additional media added to our page, more people will take notice and continue to support or share our idea.

    We appreciate it!
