    A new kickstarter's blog

    by DanielPain » Thu May 21, 2015 9:52 am

    Hello everyone,

    Nice to meet you, I'm Daniel Pain and as a new kickstarter, I would like to update a blog of my campaign's progress and my actions to share my experience as my campaign goes forward and take onboard the suggestions and advice from all you awesome people :D. I really want my campaign to succeed and I think by updating this regularly, I will be able to reflect on mistakes and to help myself keep track of what is going on and to ask you guys for advice as I go. :ugeek:

    Without further ado..

    Day 1 morning:

    * Launched my kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/17 ... rld-of-evi
    * Submitted a press release to crowdfundingpr
    * Posted on the crowdfunding google+ page: https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities ... 1059709512
    * Posted on Reddit's kickstarter and crowdfundingprojects
    * Submitted my project on Kicktraq
    * Submitted my project on crowdfundingforum
    * Submitted my project on kickingitforward
    * Created an account on KickstarterForum and wrote this post!

    Current backers: 0! Started two hours ago so don't really expect any yet but hopefully this isn't a pattern of things to come!

    Day 1 afternoon:
    * Created a Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/pages/A-01-A-w ... 9861340149
    * Created a Twitter page! https://twitter.com/AWorldofEvilRPG
    * Updated the video to show gameplay demo.

    What would you guys suggest for me to do next?

    Hi DanielPain,

    We started our campaign 2 days ago, and until know it didn't go as we expected.

    I'm not experienced, but here are some tips you might try to get more traffic and eventually backers to your project.

    Do you have a linkedin account? You can export you contacts and make a email to them using a newsletter program like mail chimp / sendinblue.

    You can post information on Facebook, and Twitter.

    As it's a gaming platform you could check game forums and ask administrators if you are allowed to post there,
    My Kickstarter Campaign is live now.

    Do you want a cleaner phone?

    Hi DrParx,

    Facebook eluded me, just made a quick Facebook page!

    I'll give Twitter a go too and have a look on some gaming forums, thanks for the advice.

    Good to see your project is getting some backers!

    Regards,
    Dan

    Hi Daniel,

    I saw your post on my thread and wanted to make a comment first. I really think you should cancel the campaign if there's no bidders soon, the stats (Kickstarter + others) show 90% don't get funded if they don't attract interest at the start...

    I think the problem with the campaign is that it's a really nice project BUT there's no prototypes, description of action in the game, who the producers are (just you, if so what games/company's you worked for...).

    Investors want to see your potential, trust and ability.

    Also for me, it put me off where you described the need to pay off your mortgage + food with any funds. I'm pretty sure that's not what KS money is for (even though most people do this), they want to see the money invested in the game. Of course, you're the boss/sole worker of the game but they still want to know that the game is being worked on and of course delivered.

    I think a $5 pricing point is too low, it should be like $20 to get the game + then have higher tiers.

    My 2 cents.

    Hi giftsandcoupons,

    Good call about why the funds are needed, the reality is that I need the money to be able to create the game over a year as nobody can live without money to pay for your mortgage, food etc. I've updated it to say that this is to cover the development labour costs.

    Going to make a few minutes of video of the gameplay and upload that on the kickstarter page.

    Regards,
    Dan

    Yep the true reason is that it's for living costs, but the truth is no one cares about that - so yes development costs would be better.

    You saw the article I'm promoting from our site? My gut is that you should cancel, go through the list and try again with potential backers already notified (rather than after the project is launched).

    For games like this, I like to know the person's background, their skill and what games they worked on in the past.

    Hi giftsandcoupons,

    Thanks again for the feedback.

    Which list are you referring to? I'll give it a couple of days and see how it goes while advertising it, if it doesn't pick up after the weekend I'll try the approach of getting backers before the kickstarter launches.

    I've updated the video to show some gameplay footage and talk a little about the game, unfortunately this is my first real game project so can not showcase a portfolio of what I've worked on to potential investors as the other projects I have worked on are software systems for business use.

    Regards,
    Dan
