9 days to go: our hurdles are generational

    Hi everyone --

I'm looking for some advice -- we launched this campaign April 8:

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/co ... -of-pete-0

As our director in the video states, he may possibly be the oldest person to launch a Kickstarter. He's 93. We've been banking on the appeal to Pete Seeger fans, vocal music and our own fan base and hoped that KS would amplify us. It has done, a little, and we were a staff pick in the first week. However, we've encountered issues with the technology.

Many of our would-be backers are on the far side of 50 - there's definitely a cluster in their '70's and older. They are loathe to use their credit cards online, and perhaps don't understand or trust (or even see) the buttons and prompts on the site.

But today, we encountered difficulties with a substantial backer not being able to pledge. No problem with credit card - the problem, she said, is with Amazon. We submitted a support ticket and got this reply:

Thanks for writing in and sorry to hear about the trouble your backer is having. Kickstarter is an all or nothing platform. That means that backers are not charged for their pledge until the moment a project ends at or above its goal. If a project is not successfully funded, no backers will be charged and no money changes hands.

In addition, I'm a little confused by your backer's mention of Amazon. We’ve recently changed payments providers and no longer use Amazon Payments to process transactions on the site. Our new payments partner, Stripe, allows pledges to be made directly through Kickstarter with your credit or debit card. You can read more about this in our Backer FAQ. Kickstarter does not store full credit card numbers, but instead, only the last four digits and expiration date. Saving your credit card details for future use is entirely optional. For more information, please visit our Privacy Policy.

Your backer would not have not been charged, but they may be seeing a standard authorization of funds. The time it takes for an authorization to clear varies on the bank, but is usually within a few days. Your backer will not be charged until the project has ended successfully.

I hope this helps clarify the issue, but please have your backer continue to write into us directly if there continue to be problems!

Can KS have been hacked somehow???
