10 Red Flags Used To Spot Crowdfunding Scams and Con Artists

Thought this article would be pertinent to the "fraud watch" section. It's a shame that fraud/scammy projects are deterring backers from supporting more projects. Feel like something needs to be done about it.

It's a shame that scammers can ruin things for other people. What can be done to ensure that people aren't trying to take advantage of others and not give them the perks that the promise?

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure. I think there are activities (research as mentioned in the article) that can be taken while the campaign is live. It's hard though if after the project is done a creator decides to make off with the funds or is not able to deliver the product.

I think if the creator in some way does not deliver the product because they miscalculated a portion of the project (but they spent the funds trying to do so), then that's more reasonable. That's part of the risk with Kickstarter.

If the creator deliberately didn't deliver the product, that's in the scam category. Only way to get less people to do that is to take legal action against people.
