Two inner-city students, Courtland White and NeKeima Mitchell, from an Urban University in Jackson, MS (Jackson State University) Invent the World’s first “SMART Headphone”. Rootz has breached the realm of a true market disrupter and totally defeated the purpose of a regular wired or Bluetooth headset. Due to the capacity of the device to store memory, the headphones will be offered with multiple storage capacities and sold in a range of $289 to $489; Double the Technology for half the price of competitors. Also for every product purchased a portion goes to inner-city art programs struggling from budget cuts. 2014 Sales growth in premium headphones is being driven by a number of factors including greater attachment to mobile devices and more choices for consumers to adapt to their on-the-go lifestyles. Interestingly while sound quality remains the most important factor when making a premium headphone purchase, this number has declined from a year ago; likely a result of the influx of younger consumers buying headphones who value design and brand just as much as audio fidelity. One third of premium headphone buyers are under the age of 25 and many of these consumers view headphones as equal parts listening device and fashion accessory.
