Pre-launch marketing or surprise attack?

I'm going to launch my project on Kickstarter very soon (4/6 weeks time). All the information that I read on the web says to start all your marketing etc way ahead of time to get your project out there.

I'm worried that people will be bored of me and my idea being plastered everywhere and have got immune to seeing it by the time I come to launch. I was think of a surprise attack just a few days before.

What are anybody else's thoughts about this? Had anyone got any success stories either way to calm my qualms please?!

Thanks in advance!
