The $50.oo is going to assist in sustaining my plants so I can make Sauce. I am determined to progress my pepper sauce. I will use my goal of $50.oo dollars to start wisely and conservatively, while still moving aggressively toward mass distribution of peppers. I strive on the fact that my pepper sauce will be packed with flavor, and not compromising the satisfaction of heat. I am trying to grow many of my own peppers to give that personal care for my sauce.

About seed pureness?

Generally the seed you buy on the net are not pure. If the grower have different pepper plants growing next to each other, the result will be a mixture of different variety and won't be 100% pure. Then only way to preserve seed pureness is to self pollinate the plant by artificial means before contamination from other variety. It will take you 2-3 years or more to select a pure variety from it. It important to have seed bank of purity when searching for distinct traits. That way it easy to have certain looking pepper on you at all times for future cross breeding. I only buy from professional growers that create their own variety over the years.

Pepper breeding / crossing ?

Step 1: Grow seeds. Step 2: Cross pollinate them

Step 3: Collect the seeds that had been cross between two pepper plants.

Step 4: Grow those seeds and isolate the plant from other peppers varieties so they don't cross again. You can let that plant use it's own genetic material (self pollination)

Fun Tip - Back Crossing

when you cross you plant back with a parent or ancestor. Like if you had a Habanero x Jalapeno, it's 50/50 of each variety, if you back cross it to the Habanero, it will be either be 2/3 hab or 3/4 hab

It enables you to get a closer gene pool to the hab and likely retain some traits. You could even be 10 generations in and back-cross to a plant in the 3rd generation.

Finally a new cross is deemed stable after a large number of generations to ensure that there is little variation. (You don't want to wait for that pepper you've been growing all year to end up having a complete different color or shape do you?) For example your first generation is all dominant genes, f2 is when the recessive genes show, so when you pick a quality you want and keep that quality after so many generations, the likelihood of getting anything else after 5, 6, 7, 8 generations is so astronomically low it is more likely a mutation than anything.

Fun Tip - what does F1 mean?

F1 means first generation, F2 means second and so on. The more generations a cross has behind it the less likely you'll get any other phenotype. Phenotypes are just how genes are expressed in a certain environment. (simple eh)

If I can, I will give you more pods!
If I can reach my stretch Goal I be happy to increase every one rewards.
