Our Kickstarter - XLP Dice! (16% Funded in 36 Hours!)

For about six months, we've been working on a design for a more modern looking dice than the classic style and we're so proud to finally launch our first Kickstarter!

We designed this with the idea of removing an equal amount of material from each face, resulting in an extremely accurate and balance die. For comparison, the amount by which the dices' center of mass is off from true center is less than the diameter of the average human hair (.004").

Every dice is precision CNC'ed on each face. While we mostly use acrylic for the plastic dice, future dice released may be made out of other types of plastics (such as resin). However, the exact material information of each dice that varies from the acrylic will be specified with its release.

Each metal dice released will be made specifically out of the material it is named after. For example, the aluminum dice currently available are made of 6061 alloy. We are also close to our next stretch goal, which will release a new type of metal, chosen by the backers. The choice is between copper, bronze and brass. If you would like to participate, please vote!

If you have any questions regarding our project or process used to create the dice, please don't hesitate to ask! Also, any comments, suggestions or constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! No particular reason -- other than the fact that we're all pretty camera shy! Still thinking about adding one!

We also just released Steel and Stainless Steel dice, along with 3 flame-treated options -- yellow, blue and purple!

These look pretty neat, but why are they so expensive?

Generally, cheaper dice are injection-molded. Ours are precision CNC'ed out of high quality plastics (acrylics, resins, etc). Unlike injection-molded dice that are made in seconds, our dice are machined on each face which increases labor costs.

Our dice have a different range of colors than typical injection-molded dice. We chose to machine our dice vs. injection molding since it will allow us to offer a wider variety of materials and styles.

I hope that clears up why our prices are set the way they are, but if you have any other questions regarding this or anything else, please feel free to ask.

Thanks for the info. I know custom dice can be expensive, just wanted to know which methods you were using. They do look like they came out great.
