For me it was only two days, but my goal is only $500, so it wasn't so difficult.

When you first started your project, where did you first post to?

My initial donations have been from family and friends. The majority of my traffic has come from Facebook.

What if you don't want to share with family? Whats the best way to pay to get it advertised now?

Most recommendations I have heard is to get the ball rolling with getting support from people you already know. So I'm not sure what the most efficient way to spend advertising dollars would be! You could always to try to contact local news for some free publicity if your campaign would be of interest to people in your area.

Well my project is in Ukraine, so contacting local news like TSN.UA and telling them I am doing a fictional village, I don't think they would understand the humor...
If you remember The Schmenge Brothers, this is what it is about.

Be careful if you do end up dropping money on advertising I've seen a few people around who with projects of around $5000 target dropped mad cash on advertising, like $1900 and got almost nothing from it. Some likes, some shares no doubt but minimal, minimal pledges. And most of those campaigns failed too and didn't collect any money at all.
I think contacting peoples blogs who might be interested is a safer and cheaper bet.
