Hi All!

I’m Hanna, member of a Hungarian team with a passion for shoes. We are now on the path to produce our first DIY shoe design for retail sale. The design is called PIKKPACK and you can check it out on http://www.pikkpack.com

We just launched our Kickstarter campaign to gain more exposure for PIKKPACK and the philosophy behind it. Please check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/330336128/pikkpack-diy-leather-footwear

After experimenting with footwear for a long time, we wanted to create a shoe with the minimal amount of material that would make the wearer part of the shoe making process. The inspiration came from an old Hungarian shoe called bocskor (pronounced: “BOTCH-core” ) which was traditionally made from one piece of leather. The result is a DIY shoe called PIKKPACK (a Hungarian play on words meaning “piece of cake”). PIKKPACK starts out as a flat piece of premium quality leather then the wearer can quickly transform it into a 3D piece of clothing by assembling the shoe with a contrasting cotton lace. By shipping these lightweight flat-packed shoes in small packages, the shoes not only encourage participation in the manufacturing process, but also conserve materials and decrease shipping costs. PIKKPACK is designed for both men and women and since it’s made of lightweight leather, it’s breathable and warm at the same time - suitable for nearly every occasion.

We have already been featured in some very acknowledged design blogs, such as Designboom:

It would be great if you would provide me with some feedbacks on what you think of the shoes, the campaign page and the whole project. All insights are welcome!

Cheers,
Hanna

Woah...very cool product. Haven't seen something like that before. You definitely have a huge community to tap into with the whole DIY movement. Would ask some of your backers (I imagine some are family/friends) to leave comments on the project to jumpstart discussion.

I'm not sure how big a difference it would make vs. the effort required, but you could put a "retails for x" on the early bird tiers.

Good idea, thanks very much for the insights.

We know that the whole DIY concept is very popular in the US, this is why we've chosen to target the US footwear market rather than the Hungarian / European one. Hope that we can share the idea with a much broader audience over the ocean.

How's the campaign been going so far? Where have backers been coming from (social network, Kickstarter, etc)? It seems like you've been progressing steadily each day.

Hi, I think these are owesome shoes. Not a lot of efforts is necessary to make the shoe yourself but the design looks like a top-end quality shoe! The only problem is that they can be worn in the good weather only I guess… they don't look like waterproof

Thanks for following our progress, it's going ok. We could have more backers but it's difficult without strong US network. They are mainly coming from social network as we see and some people read about us on some design blogs as well. Fortunately we got published many times in the last few days.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, we really try to offer the best quality but they are summer shoes indeed...

Awesome. Do you have any tips for reaching out to design blogs?

We are constantly sending out press releases to the sites which seem more or less relevant. We have already contacted many of them (also DIY blogs and big media publishers like Huffington Post, The Guardian or Buzzfeed).

We are trying to reach cycling related websites and blogs as well, given that one of our pledges is a pair of Pikkpack with reflective shoelaces, named Cyclists' Pikkpack Shoes
