Hey Guys!

I am an Associate Producer on a powerful documentary about prison recidivism titled Released. The film is about four ex-offenders and the struggles they face adjusting to society and not returning to the prison they have spent most of their lives at.

We have launched our Kickstarter campaign to raise enough funds to get distribution across the country after having a small successful premiere in New York City. It received great reviews from The New York Times and The Daily News. We really want to get this film's message to everyone we can to help stop this vicious cycle.

Welcome! How's the campaign going?

raised $2,220 out of $27,000 in the first 8 days. would love to find other communities to reach out to and get noticed by kickstarter itself. Any advice?

What type of marketing have you been doing thus far? Have you reached out to any organizations or publications active in prison afterlife/re-adjustment to society?

Yes we have some organizations using their social media to send out our kickstarter link and talk about our project. They don't have the funds and generally don't donate to films so promotion is the best we can ask for. Have some great people on that front. We are trying to find other people in the kickstarter and film communities.

Have you tried reaching out to the boys clubs and have this be like the new "Scared Straight". Seeing that it is hard to get back into society after being in prison could help these kids think twice about doing something that could end them up there in the first place.

There is a great independent musician named Thao Nguyen who released an album last year, somewhat inspired by a female prisoners organization she works with, and I'm sure there are cases of other artists who have a passion for this cause. Perhaps you can google a bit and tweet at some artists who might be interested in supporting the campaign through a retweet or post. Good luck!
