Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share this stat breakdown: http://www.kickstarter.com/year/2013/?ref=footer#0-home

$480 million was pledged by 3 million people on Kickstarter in 2013. There were 800,000+ people who backed more than 1 project and 80,000 that backed more than 10. Also, there were some 20,000 successful projects. See the full stats in the link above.

What are your thoughts on this?

That is truly amazing. I was thinking there might be a backlash, but it seems like even video games are growing!

It's amazing what Crowdfunding has done to the small business and inventors of the world. People like myself who do not have the means to get things going on my own are thankful for those willing to share to make others dreams become reality.

Amazing stats also relevant to how many people backed more than one project, it has become my go to place to go for innovation and where to find things that are limited edition and ahead of the huge truck that has become general retail.

If I am doing my math correctly $480,000,000 x 5% = $24,000,000... Which is a pretty nice payday for Charles Adler, Perry Chen and Yancey Strickler.

It seems the majority of the industry is missing (or intentionally glossing over) the lack of accountability and due diligence by the trio... A great place to start is the fact that Kickstarter ToS requires creators to be residents in the US, UK, Canada, Austrailia or New Zealand... go ahead and do a search there are projects from every corner of the globe.

My concern has nothing to do with exclusivity and everything to do with leveling the playing field; the fact is creators are manipulating the rules and gaming the system - I looked at 40 of the top funded technology projects, 10 of them were actually offshore factories presenting as individual creators... 8.4 million.

Others just blatantly flaunt the manipulation of the system and some even write a how-to manual like these guys: http://www.xenonauts.com/kickstarter.html

If crowdfunding is going to be marketed as a viable solution for small businesses and a key player in the economic recovery than it is imperative that the cash flow remains in the countries it belongs in so that new jobs can indeed be created... otherwise we are just running in the same hamster wheel.

That is really mind boggling. Kickstarter really provides an avenue for new and innovative businesses as well as forcing the business establishment to adapt and examine their own product lines.
