Do all backers claim perks?

Hi, my campaign is currently in draft mode. There's one thing that is confusing me though that I hope someone can clarify. When I look through other campaigns, the amount raised doesn't always match the amount raised through the Perks that have been claimed. Why is this? Is it because some people are simply backing the campaign and not claiming a perk?

It could be for a number reasons.
Backers can add more money to their pledge.
Maybe they got an add-on.
There could be some just supporting.
They could have bought in bulk.
Strictly doing the division will get you near the right amount but it won't show the true statistics.

Sometime they pay higher than the perk price.
