We're Making A Funky-Music-Movie inspired by the '27 Club'. Based on a song written the day Amy Winehouse died. STRICT THE MOVICAL is about a troubled woman on the eve of HER 27th birthday.
This song was written within an hour of hearing that Amy Winehouse had been found dead in her London home. I was writing songs everyday in 2011, so it was only natural I would look for details on what happened and then write a song about it.
Someone wrote in a blog 'Amy's gone and joined the 27 Club'. I didn't know what that was, so I looked it up on Wikipedia and learned that Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrision, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and others ALL died at the age of 27...just like Amy.
The movie tells the story of Oihana, a young woman making choices in life that hurt not just herself, but others close to her. She's a bit-part actress and waitress. Her friends are all working-class musicians and dancers. I wrote about the world I know and told true things that life has taught me through these characters.
The music is inspired by my New Orleans heritage and upbringing but structured by my partner Ritchie Swann and his 8-piece-band Loose Change. It's true original Funky-Bluesy-Eclectic Really really good music.
Oihanas life is profoundly affected when she auditions for this video.
We have a corporate sponsor paying for film studio time and some of our marketing. The Kickstarter is to augment that bare-bones funding for stuff like housing/feeding/transporting actors and equipment... insurance and expanding our marketing plan.
