Pre kickstarter prototype funding

Has anyone successfully raised funds to Build a prototype using only technical sketches, photo realistic renders etc no working demo.
kickstarter prohibites the use of photo realistic renders unless you raise funds to Build a prototype and you can't offer the product as a reward.
Can someone share with me some successful kickstarter products that started as an idea with no prototype to a full mass produced gadget.

Hi Vincent!
kickstarter (and other Crowdfunding platforms) are best used as a "Pre-Order Store". "Backers" typically want your finished product offering and that's what they want to see. That product, working perfectly, and ready for production.
Now depending on how complicated your product is, you might be surprised to discover how affordable developing a product can be.
Hope this helps,

I totally agree on this. You should have a working prototype to demonstrate its use.
Better yet, even have a manufacturer ready to start working on your product IF you get funded successfully. That being said, I also know campaigns that got funded even with 3D rendered images of their objects. So it is definitely do-able, if you have a nice, desirable sales pitch angle, and innovative idea.
In the end, it's all about marketing. That's what we're going to focus on from now. Even with an average product, you can have a nice video, awesome photos and make a good chunk of sales.
Browse kickstarter to get a clear idea of what others have done. Also, check the funded section
