Has anyone used Facebook ads to build an email list before launch? Or do you know of any campaigns that have?

I am writing an article on pre, during, and post funding with Facebook ads. Looking for as much input from creators as possible!

Tim

Hi Tim, I haven't personally used FB to collect emails (I'm guessing directing them to a landing page > enter their email > then pitch the emails before/during the campaign).

I'm interested in your article though, perhaps we could collaberate? Where will you look to place the article?

Hi HypeStarter!

Unfortunately, I'm on an ultra tight deadline! But I checked out your site - nice landing page! A bit mysterious...looking forward to what it starts to become.

I am writing the article for Ad Espresso. I'll be covering how to use Facebook ads before, during, and after launch.

Hi Tim,
I used FB to encourage likes on a fan-page before launch but not to collect e-mail addresses. What I found is that it helps determine which regions to focus on and to see if FB ads reach my target audience.
My gut feeling is that because I didn't need to invest much it was a useful exercise but whether or not it is relevant to my KS campaign I can't say yet,
Alan

Tim,

I would say yes to your question of getting the email list before your campaign, 1-2 months out I'd say. I plan on doing the same before I launch my campaign.

I've used Facebook Ads 3 months before my campaign is LIVE (expecting on March 21st).

I have gathered roughly 3,000 e-mails, 2900 facebook likes.

I also been advertising on Instagram as well - Roughly 4,000 instagram followers.

I'll keep you updated on how it goes!

Building email list before the campaign is important but I don't think using FB ads for building email list is a good idea. It's jut not cost effective. It will be more effective to use FB ads when the campaign has started.
For instance: Your FB web link ads generate 1000 visitors.

If you use it to build email list. you should consider open rate (very good: 50%) and CTR (very good:30%).
FB web link ad will generate landing page traffic: 1k
when the campaign starts, u will send newsletter to your list. Your kickstarter page traffic from your mailing list will be around: 1k x 50% x 30%= 150 visitors

If u use FB ads when your campaign is live, all of your traffic will go directly to your kickstarter page: 1000 visitors.

Perhaps, the conversion rate for email campaigns is higher than the conversion rate on FB ads but I don't think the difference is really big.

Hikaro, Can I know how much did you spend on FB ads to achieve those results?

I have a GREAT example of this. Bryce from the Raven kickstarter campaign, which raised a little over $1 million, shared exactly what he did with Facebook ads.

He talks about it all on the podcast we did.

See: http://www.crowdcrux.com/the-system-rav ... ckstarter/

Hope it's helpful!
