If you have to decide, focus on Twitter or Facebook?

Hi All,

I am planning a Kickstarter for my horror short film and I am on a very limited budget so I have to be frugal in spending and do everything myself.

I am new to Crowdfunding but also to marketing. I never used Twitter or Facebook professionally before. I don't have any email lists so social media is going to be my main source of support.

I've used the Krowdster Crowd Builder to grow my Twitter audience and after about 3 weeks my follower count grew from 190 to over 1390 as of today. This is cool and I am going to let it grow but now I am thinking about Facebook. I read that Facebook has a below 5% organic reach.

Does anyone have experience with promoting a campaign on Facebook? How did you grow your page likes? Were you able to reach your audience without paying Facebook for promotion? Like I said I am on a very limited budget so I am wondering if I should just focus on Twitter for now as it seems much easier to get followers?

How does one quickly build a Facebook page following? Are there tools similar to Krowdster that do the job on Facebook?

I am grateful for any input!

Lesley

Hi Lesley,

The limited budget thing will probably help you in the long run as you would be focusing your time, resources and (limited) money on doing what's best.

Not sure how much Krowdster cost, as you probably could of built your own audience/followers up. Are they followers in your field? Do they interact with you and show interest in your campaign?

For FB, I wouldn't spend as much time on it. I find people "liking" posts doesn't lead to alot whilst on Twitter I can engage directly with influencers.

To build up on FB quickly, you've got to offer something really. Competitions, contests and fun interactive things all work. It depends on your audience too.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your help! Right now, I fail to see my lack of budget as something good but hopefully you're right. It's a very overwhelming process to be honest but I am learning a lot and I will be giving myself the time it takes to get ready.

After reading this article by FB, I decided to skip them and focus all my attention on Twitter. It's obvious they want you to pay to reach your audience so why bother building one? https://www.facebook.com/business/news/ ... n-Facebook

Do you have any tips on how to grow a Facebook page audience without an ad budget and then how to reach that audience? From what I am reading, less than 5% of page likes actually see a post made without paying for a boost.

Thanks for your help!

Socia media consultants say Facebook advertisements are great value - compared with Google AdWords. Not sure how this compares with Twitter though.

Hi!

I'm on my first day on Kickstarter campaign. It will end in four hours. From this little period I can definitely say that Twitter gave a lot more retweets. Though, I have to admit, that having that many retweets didn't really bring me pledges. Just few and the % is so small if compared to the impressive retweeting...

Hey Everyone!

When someone asks me which social media platform is the BEST to use to promote a crowdfunding campaign, it's hard to give a definitive answer. Most of the time with my clients, I like to target both social media platforms as that way more 'ground' is covered. I can understand time may be an issue for some people, but then again; crowdfunding cannot be rushed. If you don't have the time to prepare effectively you may need to recruit some extra help.

If you don't have an advertising budget, generally Twitter is easier to build a following on. Twitter can be used as a more intimate way to connect with followers and people of interest, as that is just how the site works. Tweets are short and concise and interacting with customers and supporters is considered a fast-paced action, more so than Facebook is. There are also a few 'tricks' you can use to build a fanbase quite quickly but I won't get into that right now.

Facebook is a little different. As giftsandcoupons said, you need to offer something if you wish to quickly build up a fanbase. Competitions can be a great thing to do, but make sure you do it properly. Through competitions you can also offer incentives for sharing your page around, i.e bonus entries. If you do have an advertising budget, I'd recommend giving Facebook a try as well. You can 'boost' posts towards a target group of people who may have interested in backing a campaign like yours. It's hard to explain in a short paragraph but I will make a post on my blog when I get the chance as well.

TDLR; The best platform for you will depend on the project you are planning on running. If you have the time, give both a try.

Cheers all!

Of course you'd better do facebook, it draws audiences attention much easier. And you can also join crowdfunding group on facebook. Your project then can be noticed by more and more people.

Definitely focus on facebook more, it has more users and much better tools for targeting people. Maybe look up some social media marketing journals and have a read and you might find something useful
