Does one need to show himself up on Crowdfunding video?

Hi,
I have got a problem.
I am planning to go for crowdfunding for my upcoming project. I know, a video is a must.
But, I don't want to show myself up in the video.
Being the Founder of the project,
Do I really need to be in the cam? Isn't there any other way to avoid the cam apart from pasting a still profile pic for a few seconds?

It depends of a type of project you'll be running. If it's more personal (rather than corporate) project then it would be nice if you show in the video so you can connect with your backers on a personal level.

I agree with Vanessa but I would lean more towards having yourself in the video because it lets backers feel more connected to you and your project. That being said I have seen many campaigns do VERY well without showing themselves. The most important factor for the video is showing your idea or product in a way that clearly shows the value of your idea.
Go with your gut on this and I'm sure you will make the right choice or you could do 2 versions of the video and let your friends, family and us on this Forum vote on which one is better.
Good luck.

Thanks Vanessa and Bag Hero for the reply.
Yes, it's more of a corporate than personal.
To be precise, it's a social networking site I am planning to launch.
So I really don't think I need to show up in the video.
However, I am thinking to add my voice commentary.

This post has been moved to the Kickstarter and Crowdfunding Questions Only (Strict) section.

Hi I would say that you should show yourself in the video, I dont want to be negative but we recently went to a tech conference and there were hundreds of social media sites trying to launch, its a very crowded market.

@kelly101 Yes, I agree. The competition is huge. But still I would like to go for my project.
Btw, thanks for the comment.

That's right, EzekielHawk, you must not be discouraged by competition no matter how big it is, more so that these days there is huge competition in every business. No matter how many social media sites are out there that doesn't mean they're better than your project.

I seen it handled different ways. One way that I thought was cool was one where the person was shown standing but not speaking. His voice was dubbed over the video. So, you can take your time and record a voice separate.

We tried making several videos, some where we personally introduced our project and some animated ones - eventually we went with the animated one as it seemed to work better, but kept a short 30 second live intro which seemed to really work quite well. I'd recommend anyone else to do the same - test, test, test!
