Credit Card Rates 3~5% What's the Actual Cost?

How is the actual credit card rate billed? Does you get a fixed rate and applied to the final sum? or with varying rates applied to each individual transaction?

I know from experience that the determination of the rate to charge can be a murky process arbitrarily set by the payment service provider. Can any previous creators chime in? Are the rates reasonably spread across the board or leans towards certain percentage (5%)?

Depends on the credit card and if national vs. international, but typically rates tend to be around 1.6-2.9% for those in the US, even higher for international cards.

Paypal charges this amount + .30 on all transactions, so when KS does 5% for smaller projects, this is what they are making up for.

All-in-all, I don't think this is unreasonable.

From talks I've had with other project creators, the rates lean towards the 5%.
