I can't do the '10-30%' family/friend fund goal, any tips?

Hey everyone,

So I am stressing over a problem I can't fix. In a nutshell, I have received a lot of support from my friends and family up until this point. We have put in around $20,000 to cover the costs for the current development (I thankfully managed to support 2 of my friends with enough funding so they could work full time on the game for 4 months and have money for university). We are seeking another $20,000 on Kickstarter to finish the game.

My family and friends have done enough for me in the past year and it doesn't feel right to ask them for MORE upon the kickstarter launch. This is very crucial for a project at the start of its launch; Getting the 10-30% funded from friends and family will bring in more potential backers. Unfortunately this is something I just can't do.

I am trying very hard to reach out to other RPG enthusiasts in different gaming communities online (crowdfundingforum, kickstarterforum, preapps, Thunderclap(currently live), Epocu, Reddit, the list goes on...). I have not found much success using facebook or twitter --- facebook ads are usless and when I am trying to reach my friends it all depends on the right time to post. Twitter hasn't been very successful either, all I have for followers are various crowdfunding/crowdspeaking platforms that want my business.
I have also tried to directly email a couple different online game mags in the hopes of getting lucky and seeing a free PR come out of it, but no luck there.

There is obviously SOMETHING I am doing wrong with my pre-launch promotion but I am not sure what it is. I believe what I have to show is a lot compared to other projects/games.

Thanks,
MochShot

Thanks!

We're working as hard as we can! We can't wait to get working on it some more, but we need to let as many people know! Kickstarter launches on February 14th!

Good luck to you as well! Great-looking product -- your website is amazing also!

You can always try www.reddit.com/r/rpg

I'd spend time reading the rules, delivering value to the community, etc. before posting a link though.

Thanks Decibite,

Yeah I have posted a few text posts/ link posts on a few sub-reddits but I find they get drowned out so quickly with so many new posts --- then someone posts a picture of a squirrel holding a sword wearing a zelda costume and it shoots to the top of the board....
....maybe thats what I should do? Post a meme picture of reddit of a squirrel wearing a zelda costume holding a sword saing 'Time to take back Azmara!' .... genius!

Are you active on Twitter and Facebook? Consistent efforts towards inbound marketing have a big impact for websites, not sure the ROI for a Kickstarter campaign.
