Would be great if we could get a thread going where people are willing to share the stats from their Kickstarter dashboard or at least give us an idea of a breakdown of their pledges from strangers vs. friends.

Feel free to share as much or as little information as you'd like.

What is your conversion rates for your friends and family that you've asked? Has anyone used any tracker urls for their kickstarter? I'm using tiny URL's right now for different groups of people.

Is Facebook even an effective form of pushing your friends and family?

Hi,

only just launched, less than 48 hours, but of the 30 backers so far -

Orchestra Members 17 of 65
Family of Orchestra Members 1 of ?
Orchestra Board Members 2 of 5
Family of Board Members 2 of ?
Orchestra Supporters 4 of ?
Sal Briggman 1 of 1
Total 27

Not known 3

So a 90% - 10% split - but that is only tip of the iceberg - money wise the split is 98% - 2%,

Cheers,

Andy

Edit: Apart from Sal (67), me (1), the father of a project creator (1) & a stranger that gave a £1 (59) all the other backers are new to Kickstarter

Fascinating stuff. The people I interviewed said the friends and family were key to launching successful campaigns.

From my research, that seems to be the case for a few reasons. Firstly and most obviously, friends and family are critical because often times they'll support you no matter what your project is. Secondly, you need them to start building momentum as they share your project with THEIR friends and family. Thirdly, this momentum gives you more exposure on the Kickstarter website itself, introducing your project to people outside of your network.

I'm funding a book. Goal is $7500

I would say 2/3 friends, family, and connections. 1/3 Random people. In terms of # of backers.
In terms of $ it's about 90% friends, 10% strangers.

I always heard it was more like 30% friends, 70% strangers. Maybe that's for more 'serious' campaigns.

Ah, what a coincidence! We are also crowdfunding a book. Our Halloween Chronicles Kickstarter Campaign involves a children's fairy tale inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia and by the Nightmare Before Christmas and the Night Before Christmas. Our backer breakdown is 10% family, 20% froends, 60% strangers, and 10% crowdsourcing promoter. Pledge amount-wise, 90% of our funding has come from strangers.

What crowdsourcing promoter did you use, if you don't mind me asking?
