Thoughts on equity crowdfunding for films?

If you could invest small amounts in a movie and have ownership in that movie, would you do it?

Film projects are one of the more popular categories on Kickstarter, but unfortunately the fans don't get any ownership in the movie after helping to produce it.

I think it would be kind of cool to be able to say that you have ownership in a movie. Especially if it's a local production and you can go and visit the set.

Would you ever invest in a movie if it was affordable? Just curious :D

currently my girlfriends brother has developed his own movie and funded most of the production himself, he has a kick starter project to try and get it out into the digital market (netfilx/amazon/itunes) as cinema showing work out highly expensive and finding backers is quite difficult. normally requiring more upfront cash to show in film festivals hoping film doesn't leek into black markets.

i have seem other sites that offer a percentage of film production but their targets are in million mark and haven't done film yet.

whereas a percentage of film is nice i like to idea of getting name in credits and movie merch depending on level of pledge.

Also a lot of our local uni uses kickstarter to get mini tv shows added or at least a series produced.

i liked some of the creative perks, like pledge £100 or more, actors will visit you house and grovel at door step in thanks.
