Crowdfunding for Musicians

I notice that a lot of musicians on kickstarter reach their goals without having a strong online presence. I was wondering if anyone would know where most of their backing would be coming from. I'm posting a video below that I believe is an example of what I'm talking about.

I'm sure that she posted a lot about her project on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. She also has websites that probably link back to her Kickstarter page. Plus she's a girl and I read an article about how girls usually have their projects funded more than guys (not sure how accurate that is). Another big thing is she had a host of a radio station talk about her music. She might have even talked to the host and asked him to promote her project on the radio. Although she might not have a strong online presence on Kickstarter, she probably has many fans on YouTube and she used her social media to get more fans to help.

I put together a crowdfunding guide for musicians that compiles advice/articles from successful music campaigns. Might be helpful? See -> http://www.crowdcrux.com/crowdfunding-guide-musicians/

I don't think online presence (having a fancy website) matters as much as long as you have an actual following or people who like your music. You then need to pick the best way to communicate with them (email, if they are following you on FB, etc) and give them an easy way to spread the word.
