Why do people back Kickstarter projects?

Would be cool to get a thread going on why people have backed projects in the past. Here is what Kickstarter has to say

Many backers are rallying around their friends' projects. Some are supporting a new effort from someone they've long admired. Some are just inspired by a new idea, while others are motivated to pledge by a project's rewards — a copy of what's being produced, a limited edition, or a custom experience related to the project.

Backing a project is more than just pledging funds to a creator. It's pledging your support to a creative idea that you want to see exist in the world.

I've pledged on about a dozen - sometimes friends, sometimes ideas I admire, sometimes to stay updated on their campaign. Often it is almost a gifting as I've rarely been an "early adopter", so hard to wrap my head around that sometimes.

In my case it seems to just be friends and family wanting to support my work. What drives me to support other campaigns is wanting to see products I'm interested in succeed.

This is really an important fact for Kickstarters. If you have dreamed for a project, done lots of effort for it, done campaign and invested money for it, then this is very bad to back step. In this field, some get success so soon and some takes some time, but it is your responsibility to keep patience and wait for the best.

Franklin - how long is your campaign total? Are you able to shorten it up if you get your funds sooner?

In the past I have backed campaigns for friends, but also campaigns that I thought supported the benefit of mankind. If projects only support a person or a single company, I tend to ignore them; but some campaigns are used for the good of others and those are the ones I love to see green-lighted.

I usually deny the rewards simply to allow them to spend more resources on their project.

I have backed project for different reasons. One because it has provided me with a solution to a life long problem. Another because it facilitated employment in a developing country - something that my project is also aiming to do if we get the funding ;-)

we can only speculate as to why, but we can increase our chances through language.

I have been thinking about backing some projects here recently. Backing for me entails either believing in the cause of the project (projects like my own that are just trying to make the world a little brighter) or it being an interesting and innovative way to solve a problem.
