Can I make a product if a paper is published about it?

Hi everyone,

I have been thinking about a product that is perfect for a Kickstarter project - however, recently I noticed that couple of university students published a paper on using the same method to make a product. Does that mean that I am not allowed to make the same now? or would kickstarter refuse me or would I get in trouble with the university students? does a scientific paper publication mean partial "patent"?

Thanks,

That does not mean a patent. But it doesnt mean they dont have a patent either. Find out if they have a patent and I would say go for it. The paper written just shows theirs a market for the product.

I don't think Kickstarter would refuse you if you are operating within their terms of service. Would recommend researching if they have a patent and would talk to a lawyer. You don't want to pour years of your life into something only to be sued.
