Kickstarter campaign with split potential

Hello.
I have a question about a Kickstarter campaign that we will be launching in September. It involves developing a health monitoring device for iPhone and Android devices. The device will communicate with the phones using Bluetooth. On Android, this is pretty straightforward. On iPhones, however, this will require a certification from Apple.
If the campaign goal is met we face a small risk that the iPhone version will take longer to develop due to Apple bureaucracy or absolute worst case that we somehow fail to acquire the certification needed. This could potentially put us in a position where we would have to refund the pledges by backers who were interested in the iPhone version of the device.
Other than securing the Apple certification beforehand, which is difficult without the finished product in hand, how would you suggest we tackle this issue? We have debated splitting the campaign in two - one for iPhone and one for Android, but we don't like that idea for several reasons.
