I have known 5 people who wanted to launch with backers, and they backed themselves to the tune of $10,000. This was all done via prepaid debit cards and then they cancelled their pledges before time ran out.

Has anyone else done this successfully? Is it an immediate ban if caught?

This can get you a life time ban. It's not worth the risk at all. They will ban your SSN.

Yeah I would not risk it, since it also makes it look bad to other backers when your campaign suddenly drops in funds. Looks like a red flag.
