Hello all, my name is Zachary Irwin, president of Opaque Industries, and we managed to get our still LIVE Kickstarter funded within the first 25 hours.
We were in active/open playtest for a good while and gained a following that way, we've stayed in pretty constant contact with our fans too and it caused us to hit our funding in the first 25 hours. Since then we've just been trying to advertise anywhere and everywhere we can and asking our fans to help spread the word too. Beyond that, we made sure we had a good array of backer tiers without having too many, we looked a lot at other successful Kickstarters.
That our game could be playtested over the Internet was vital. We were also in a big forum where people can get curious and come take a look. We had the fanbase we had over about 1 year of continual playtesting. Our main guy in there was also somewhat well known on that forum to begin with so he was able to draw certain new people in quickly. Then the game was in passive development over about 4 years just because of day jobs and such. When we finally released, that whole fanbase just came through for us. We also did a hell of a lot of research about correct and pleasant looking backer tiers. We knew that they really liked our Campaign Setting, our lore, so we made the high price tiers factor in that aspect they love, and they are such contested spots we've had to add in more 3 times now. As far as shipping, we are using Drive-thru RPG which does our books and card productions. I believe they can do boardgames. They cover all shipping and handling as well. It helps just to find a well-reviewed one-stop shop that can handle that. And if possible for selling overseas, try local printing for them to save on their shipping costs. A lot of Kickstarters have "EU-FRIENDLY" tag.
I hope this is helpful to anyone and everyone!
