Hi everyone,
We currently run a campaign on Kickstarter for the expansion of Hoyuk a tile-laying board game, Hoyuk: Anatolia.
LINK: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ma ... k-anatolia
For those who learn Hoyuk for the first time, here are some info: The peaceful valley where 5 clans have sheltered for generations, harvested crops, bred animals, and raised children has a problem. It’s over populated. Land is scarce, but not ambition. Each clan pushes to occupy more and more land to further their own goals, which causes other clans to have less to work with. The pursuit of peaceful coexistence has been replaced by each clans’ ambition for personal power. You must now lead your clan to victory or the valley may no longer be your home!
The game is divided in three different modes: Base game, medium and advanced. In each mode you use more and more components and some additional rules These rules add more strategy in the game and increase the decisions each player has to take for their clan. The best mode in our opinion is the advanced one where you are able to trigger your clan's ability. Each clan has a unique ability that can be triggered if you meed the right conditions. Although Hoyuk is a simple game when you play the base mode, it is not. It requires a lot of strategy on how you build your Blocks all over the valley. Around the Houses you can add Pens but also more elements are available such as Shrines, Ovens, Cattle and Villagers. These elements will help you score more Victory Point.
WHAT'S NEW WITH ANATOLIA
Anatolia takes Hoyuk in the next level since players deal with some specific Achievements. Each of the Achievement occur different tasks therefore include different rules and score different Victory Points.
Downtime: It remains about the same as you would play the advanced mode of Hoyuk. You take the same amount of actions during your turn just in this case you have to more choices.
Overall Duration: It also remains the same since the games ends when the last House is built. The game ends exactly as in the base game without adding some pointless rules or complexity.
Replayability: Each game generates different results depend on the mode you play but with Anatolia things are different. A player may complete two Achievements in order to score more Victory Points but at the same time he does not pay attention on how he builds a Block, or how many Houses has built in each Block. As a result of this .. he loses points at the end of the game. And that's where another player may win because he has build a strong village with many Houses and score many VP at the end of the game. The way you choose to play Hoyuk + Anatolia determine your course at the end of the game.
Score Track: It reaches 100 points total, although in the base game would be difficult to reach it. We designed it like this from the beginning because we were already thinking of few expansions and how they could affect the score track. In other words, each expansion can increase more and more the total VP you get. The whole game is like an upgrading character where you can boost more and more each time.
Fun: The fact that you can adjust the difficult of the game easily, but reduce none of the fun is important. This also will allow you to make this a family game, an adult game, or a gamer’s game with your gaming friends. As different players say: At first, they are all like, where’s the challenge here? Then, after few of rounds, they all like, oh, damn, now this is starting to get hard! The game really sneaks up on you if you don’t watch it. The most important on Hoyuk is that each level adds rules or some other elements without removing any of the fun of the base game. Anatolia follows the same way offering new choices to all players.
We also offer our previous games in this campaign. We have create a pledge level where you can simple pledge for our other games as well.
