Dorothea's Boat Needs To Set Sail

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, but I wish I'd found it earlier. It's great to read about other people's experiences.

I just wanted to share my project with you, which seems to be going well, four days in. It's for my new album, but I haven't done what most artists/bands do and offer a whole load of handwritten things.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/da ... o-set-sail

As you can see, there are some usual album-related rewards, with each bundle considerably different to the others. I explain in the video why I haven't included handwritten lyrics, or a broken guitar string, or the talcum powder I used on my Tabla, but that all backers should know that every reward will come with something personal.

From the reaction I have had from friends and strangers alike, they seem to like that!

One big thing that is definitely going to add a lot of funds soon is the penultimate reward - the one where I am making my mixing services available (for considerably less than I would normally charge). One person has got in touch via my website's online form to ask me about it and he will be pledging 33% of the overall target for me to mix five pieces.

A few journalists have got back in touch, and in the coming weeks there should be articles coming out, so hopefully that will keep the momentum going.

Any feedback you have would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

David

Your project video, I watched. I found it to be interesting. You're very comfortable talking into the camera. You're also somewhat soft-spoken, and come across as a bit of a gentlemen, near the end. Very nice.

I tried watching the other three videos, but while I think that you're interesting, as a person, I wasn't really a fan of the music - which is neither here nor there, as taste in music is highly subjective and varies widely, from person to person.

Your project page needs photographs on it, though. You're a decent looking fellow, but you don't really take advantage of that, as far as using it to increase the visual interest of your project page.

I was rather impressed with your approach to music and sound. I was even going to back your project, simply because I found your project video to be interesting, but you live in a different country, and Kickstarter wants me to type in all of the credit card info, again, something that I do not have to do for projects based in the United States. So, you lose me as a backer, due to that.

Visually, I think that your video in your Update # 1 was more visually interesting, than either of the three other music videos on your project page, for the amount of time that I watched those other three (none to completion).

I liked the guitar that you picked up in Crete, if memory serves me correctly. I also liked your playing of it. I think that your musical skills are better than you singing skills, but I can't sing, at all, so you're a much better singer than I am, that's for sure.

Overall, your project page lacks depth. You have large masses of text, and need visual dividers to break that up into more manageable bits.
