Gamers or students or both?

We originally designed our Kickstarter game with gamers in mind, and indeed most of our playtesting has used this demographic. But the comment we keep hearing is "I'd love to play this with my kids", or "you should market this for science teachers".
Does anyone have any experience with this market? How would we break in? And do you think that a game can be successful in both markets, or should we focus on just one?
