Need to collect emails for game KS campaign?

Hello all 
I'm a part of an indie game dev team. We're going to launch a KS campaign with our new PC game soon!
So, we're focusing on increasing the number of Twitter followers and community members on Discord.
But from all the successful KS campaigns all I hear is "collect emails" from the potential backers.
Does PC game campaign need to collect emails as well when we have a place where we can make an announcement of our campaign?
