A school project is going to fail

Hey everyone,

maybe our story is something new to share, cause we only want to collect 120 EUR (about 140 $), but maybe this is our problem. What to you think about this point? Is it a failure to choose such a low goal? Is nobody giving something cause the goal is so low?
Or is our campaign just so shitty that nobody is interessted in it? ;)

About our project: We are a german school class which has learned programming a bit in school and want to make a small game in the summer to bring it to steam. The marketing campaign is part of our project so we wanted to make a kickstartercampaign for advertising and to get the money for the steam fee. We dont need more money, so why should we choose a higher goal. But in fact we got a lot of negative feedback, for example why we dont pay the fee on our own.
What is your advice?

I think you need a better positive outlook, as I bet you've spent many hours putting together the page, text and screenshot...that's worth more than the 120 euro's you're asking for.

The thing about your campaign is that I didn't know it was a video game until Kickstarter said it was. No way does this represent a video game, more of something connected with penguins.

My suggestion is build up a better MVP, connect with your family + friends to get them (more) excited, have a proper demo ready and lay off the penguin images :)

Best of luck with it.

if this is a real world learning example for school children then good luck to you.
If you played too much on the school angle, kids and all that sort of thing it would have probably brought you quite a lot of publicity, one could argue that in the real world you wouldn't be able to rely on that, so by not pushing that aspect you are seeing first hand the realities of raising awareness. Equally though it is one of your marketing strengths and you would learn from playing that card.
I think the goal should have been more realistic because you are not factoring in the costs taken by KS, marketing and time related costs for the campaign..

Given your low goal, you will likely get there, but I think similarly to Hyperstarter, it wouldn't harm to rethink it, even relaunch it with a better pitch and get the school more involved sharing it among, staff and all the school children, it could do really well, and who knows even over funding which you could plough back into the school computer group.

I have to say the message of the game for children is rather dark? Revenge, hate.. It could be that is is lost in translation but a more positive pitch of the game re children would in my opinion suit better.

Schönes Wochenende Bis später

Hey,
thanks for the reply! That nobody understand what the game is about - or even that it is a game - is a big problem in the campaign, but we have no idea how this could be chanced.
Yeah, the game is quite dark, but it is not a game for children, it is made by a 12th class ;)

Thanks Wildflower!
The harder Stuff is the programming of the game I guess.

BTW: Last 24 hours of our campaign are running !

Looks like you got funded after all!

I think some of the other commenters were correct, though. I had to search a little to figure out what you were raising funds for. So maybe it was confusing at first for people =)
