Promote Before or During

Would you guys recommend promoting a Kickstarter campaign before it starts (like hand out material announcing the launch date) or would you recommend promoting it while the campaign is already going on?

You want a good start off. Handing out material or contacting blogs prior to launch seems to be what many successful KS campaigns are doing.

I heard that it's better to have the biggest push during the campaign, with a good few targeted backers on your side before the launch. what are your thoughts?

The research I've done seems to point out that you want to have a good bunch of supporters lined up on Day 1, and then branching out. I don't believe you can have a successful campaign without both unless everyone loves it from the start. Best of luck.

Ok, so how soon before my Kickstarter campaign launches should I hand out my material or make my social media posts? I'm launching on February 1, so would it be too early now to start tweeting and putting Facebook posts up? Would people just forget and I should wait until ____? Or should I start the buzz now? Or maybe both now and right before the campaign?

I think promote your kickstarter when your campaign is up is better, then people can just check and help you pledge right away, or promote it a week before you launch. If you promote far away before your kickstarter campaign start usually peoples sometime can forget about it.

There's no "forget about it" if you provide your audience with good material to engage and spread the word.

Just a note: February 1 is on a Sunday. Unless you have a huge following, it's better to start off in the middle of the week.

You should start promoting it months before the start of your campaign. The initial buzz that comes from your side takes hard work to come. You need a very interested email list, a highly active social media profile on sites like twitter, facebook, linkedin, Pinterest, G+ etc.

On the first day of your campaign, you should try to get as much support as possible. The initial buzz will make your campaign a "Staff pick" and get it featured on the categories and the homepage. The buzz from all this will get you some media coverage hopefully and finally you will reach your goals,

thanks,
