The truth is out there! Gillian Anderson says crowdfunding could help third 'X-Files' movie get made
Creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Anderson are on board to make a third film, but they may need fan help after second movie's poor box office numbers.
David Duchovny as Agent Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Agent Dana Scully are seen during ‘The X-Files’ prime.
It's not such an alien concept.
"X-Files" star Gillian Anderson says there could be a third big-screen adventure — if the franchise's cult following can be galvanized into joining the conspiracy to get the film made.
"We could crowdfund an 'X-Files' movie," the actress told Bloomberg TV. "That (funding issue) is ultimately is what's keeping it from happening — other than Fox giving the go-ahead, which is not a small issue."
Anderson starred along side David Duchovny on the sci-fi horror television series, which ran from 1993 to 2002, and in two movies spun off the show.
The truth is, it's not such an out there idea: Crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter have given fans the chance to help bypass the studio system to get indie films made in exchange for rewards like private screenings and free T-shirts.
