The Lix 3D-Printing Pen is very similar to a project launched a year ago, the 3Doodler, but is being designed with professional use in mind.

Within its first two hours of launching yesterday, the Lix Pen crushed its £30K funding goal. As of this writing (roughly 24 hours after launch), it’s sitting pretty at £170K.

Their Kickstarter video is featured in this article and shows some very cool artistic and practical applications of this pen.

I could see how a 3D printing pen would be interesting, but as an engineer, I would never buy it. I'm starting to dislike all the hobby level FFF or FDM based 3D printers because the ones I've dealt with so far require a lot of maintenance.
