Puzzled by the poor quality of some KS campaign

Hi all
(this thread is not to make fun of some KS campaigns).

I'm often puzzled by the poor quality of some KS campaigns.
One recent example is this one :
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/si ... experience

I don't understand why the KS team accepts campaigns that is so basic. Only a drawing of the product. And goal is $200.000

Another example is this one : http://kck.st/2PX4WqH
The guy is a student, he says he's been working on the project since 2016, and the only thing he can show is a simple bow-tie.

Sometimes, the campaign is more professional looking, but the target $$ is so high that the odds of reaching it are quite slim.
One example is https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mo ... r-francais
He asks 110.000€ (about US$120.000). Which is way above what's needed to make a small run of custom watches.

I don't understand what they are hoping.

(Now, I hope my KS campaign will be a little more prepared... At least, there will be some real prototypes, and not a simple drawing)

This is such an interesting point.

I believe sometimes people spend a lot of time developing their idea and product, but not enough time researching the market, for example. It's so important to know that you're idea is filling a market need.

Also, yes, a campaign with only a drawing might look odd, but some people believe very much in their idea/don't know how to get the money for a prototype.

What I mean is that it's a combination of factors. For a successful campaign, the creator has to be realistic, creative, have a good sense of market research, and in most successful cases, a great demo video. And even then sometimes campaigns fail for some reason or another. But when there's a good idea, the campaign page can always be improved and re-launched :D

I'm doing an animated pilot myself, and in my research, I found some campaigns that failed first time round but smashed their goal the second, and... well, campaigns that tried and failed five times in the span of seven months, barely making any changes in-between campaigns. Some people think "I'll just plop my project on Kickstarter and the money will come rolling in". Other times, it's people who are truly passionate about their project but just don't have the marketing/pitching skills to get it off the ground.

That breastfeeding one, though... For $100 you could've commissioned someone for a better drawing than that. I find the watch one curious though, because the photos used look a bit CGI-ish, and I thought Kickstarter didn't allow for 'photorealistic rendering' of 3D models to represent the product. But maybe I'm wrong.
