I have a project that will cost $2,000 to get done. I am offering perks. If I just raise $2,000 I will not have enough to provide the perks and do the project. Basically I have to raise 3 times my actual need in order to provide the perks and get the project done. I fear setting the goal too high because I might not hit my target. Any suggestions? I have to be doing something wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You need to find the perfect balance between the cost of your project and carefully selected perks so you can have a reasonable goal. It'll help if you do your research. Find campaigns similar to your campaign. Compare successful campaigns with those that failed to reach their goal. Pay attention to every detail, such as which perks were most wanted, which goals got funded etc.
