Bringing back the VAT issue...

I'm a creator from Spain. As far as I know I should charge VAT (21% in Spain) to my European backers.
I've seen a few projects that specify this and charge the VAT including it as shipping charges. But most of them don't mention it in the campaign or the coments.

So... what are the European creators doing? How can most of them don't charge VAT? What should I do?

Bonus question: Why Kickstarter has no detailed information about this and why there is no field to charge taxes to backers?

Shipping to European backers is definitely frustrating at times. What I've found to be most useful, and share it often with those I work with, is information from Stonemaier Games. They have launched a lot of board games on Kickstarter and offer worldwide shipping. The founder, Jamey, documents in detail how to get these products to backers, including information about VAT.

Although you might not be launching board games, it's still worth understanding the process and the rules surrounding shipping to Europe. The site also offers a list of recommended fulfillment partners in each region.
