    Critique my campaign? Pretty please?

    by StoryBox » Thu Jan 09, 2014 3:54 pm

    Hi all,

I launched my first Kickstarter project just a few days ago and I would love some feedback from those of you who have done this before - especially those of you who are interested in the arts. Is there anything that I can do to improve my campaign?

    Thanks in advance.

Great idea! It's much like the make-something each day/week/month challenges that go around, but this will have a home which will be a truly inspirational place.
Haven't launched mine yet myself, but my concern is getting word out. How are you doing it?
I will share with my 4,300 crafty friends on Facebook ;)
    Best of luck!

I think it's a cool idea. I remember seeing a creative box subscription business on sharktank that was doing well, except it was for children.

Just some thoughts as a fellow entrepreneur:

    - I like this idea because you actually don't need Kickstarter to make it happen. You just need orders - which you would use to buy the boxes/materials and ship them out. If you're using Kickstarter to assess market demand, that's cool.

    - I think your market is far too broad (it's good later, but not initially). I would hyper focus on one segment of the artistic and creative community (example: writers, painters, film makers, etc) and tailor the boxes to them. Items that may be relevant for a painter may be less relevant for a fiction author. In the bookstore, you see books that offer muse and inspiration for writers and books that offer muse and inspiration for painters, but not not as many for every creative type (at least that I've noticed).

    - I like the ability to create themed boxes. One thing that does is make your costs uncertain, but it also makes people more involved and I personally like that a lot, but wish it was at a lower tier.

    - Think this could be a great gift for a friend or gf/bf that is creative.

    - I didn't look through the entire campaign, so I'm not sure if you did this, but it would be cool if you can somehow showcase the creations that people make.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I really appreciate it. I will have a forum on my website for everyone to share their creations - I'll also be giving away prizes each month. I know that I could start right now, but one reason I'm using Kickstarter is to create some buzz and get my first subscribers.

Thanks for sharing with your Facebook friends! That rocks!

I'm trying to contact 10 people each day (outside my friends group) and let them know about the project. Yesterday, I contacted 10 art teachers in the area. Today I contacted 10 artists on Twitter. Tomorrow I plan to contact 10 local English teachers.

I'm trying to take deep breaths and keep on going. Thanks again!

You may get some more comments if you leave feedback on someone else's campaign in the forum and then ask them to provide feedback for yours :)

This is a neat idea. Does everyone get the same items each month, like Birchbox? Or are they random items?

Everyone will get getting the same items each month. That's one reason it's so neat to see what everyone makes out of the same items.

Really cool idea, and the video was great. I think the reward tier for $200, should be more of a marketing gimmick. You should contact other companies that would be interested in sponsoring a box, and let them know for $200 they can easily sponsor a box and fill it with their own stuff. Fill them in on how many people you expect to have each month. Contact websites like Zazzle.com, Cafepress.com. Heres a link for 10 websites that are all similar. http://www.moreofit.com/similar-to/www.zazzle.com/Top_10_Sites_Like_Zazzle/ There are people on Fiverr.com that might be interested in sponsoring a box as well. I would start contacting them all individually.

Also, why does it costs $25 for the first box, but its only $10 a month after? You might find that some people will wait until after and just pay $10 dollars.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback! The idea of companies sponsoring a box is a great one. In the future I would like for art supply companies to send their things in the boxes and then have people come to the StoryBox site to buy products if they are interested. That way I could earn a commission just like Birchbox does.

For a regular year's subscription is is $10 for the first and all boxes. For the campaign, I set it at $25, not really thinking about that, but thinking that with the box and sticker, they would really just be supporting the campaign. Unfortunately, I can't go in and change any of the rewards. (I don't think)

I'll start contacting companies this evening. Hopefully, I'll be able to find the correct contacts that I need.

    Thanks again!
