levelling wall tiles without puncturing the waterproof membrane

    by Averyton » Wed May 11, 2022 7:29 am

    Hi All

I am about to tile (diy) the shower in my new ensuite, all is going well however I am not sure how to set the first row of wall tiles without damaging the waterproofing.

Extensive online searches has turned up nada!

If I screw a batten to the wall this will puncture the waterproofing, the only thing I can think of is to screw the batten, tile the wall, let the glue go off and then remove the batten, repair the damaged waterproof and finally do the bottom row of tiles.

I have seen some tilers state that some adhesive is strong enough to carry the weight, and therefore just level your first row and go from there.

Neither approaches sit right with me and I am wondering if there is a better way?

You can do this using the cap method. Cap – plastic wedges with a locking lock inside. They are used for tiles with a thickness of 5 to 25 mm. They are a disposable grooved rod and a pressure cap with a clip. To tighten the tiles of this SVP, an additional device is needed, which can either be bundled or purchased separately. In general, I would advise you to carry out any repair work with the help of professionals. Personally, I turned to the company for help https://rooterworx.ca/waterproofing.
