    Japanese crowdfunding?

    by asum » Thu May 16, 2019 2:41 pm

Hi, I'm a second time creator. Even before I launched my second project, I had a few emails about Japanese crowdfunding with regards to my first project products. I do feel my products fit well in Japan and had a few customers from there over the years. And today I got another message about my 2nd kickstarter (launched 2 days back).

Has anyone tried any Japanese crowdfunding and can tell me anything about these? It's so hard to vet companies from half way cross the world in a different time zone with little knowledge. But I would really like to expand more in the Japanese market as I see that as long term growth for my brand.

For anyone curious, here's my project. It funded the first day.

--> If you know someone that like my style, please pass on my project. My stuff is a bit niche for the Kickstarter community so I could use any help, thank you :)

    thanks, angela

I'm not sure what you mean by Japanese Crowdfunding? Backers and influencers who are based in Japan?

I've worked on campaigns targeting Japan and getting featured on CNET.JP was one of them. I think Singapore might be a better country to target as they're more acceptable to Kickstarter and have seen quite a few backers coming from this country.

    Hope this helps!

OH interesting. I just get messages from Japanese businesses--you pay a fee to have them interpret and post your project on one (or more) Japanese crowdfunding sites.
My stuff isn't techy so CNET doesn't make sense, but I'm curious how you got that through despite language barrier.

    thanks

From what I remember about the CNET article, they found the campaign from another site we pitched and then they translated the project themselves.

Looking at your campaign the 3rd highest number comes from Singapore. Let me know if can help with anything as your campaign looks good.

My reply is a little bit late, but it could hopefully help you for future campaigns.
First of all, I love your work. Great designs. No wonder why it got some traction in Japan. Having been a few times to Japan for work, I understand why some Japanese consumers enjoy your work.
I do not have a proper answer to your question. However, I have seen projects on Kickstarter with Japanese subtitles and a Japanese copy at the end of the project page. This could be something to do for your next campaign.
On social media, try to use Japanese # related to your niche to increase your visibility in Japan.
