Only $2k in 2 days - Sign of failure?

    by GetVisa » Wed Sep 17, 2014 8:18 pm

    Hey Experts,

My project managed to raise only $2k in 50 hrs . My goal is $10,000. Do you think its a failure?
I read somewhere that if you are not able to raise close to 40% in first couple of days there is 80% chance that you will not be successfully funded.

Experts please advise me on this.

    Regards,
    GetVisa

No, I think you need to keep pushing it. You should be aiming to get 30% in the first week. Yes, i you get 40% in the first couple of days, that puts you in very good shape.

I agree, keep pushing forward. I experienced a similar situation with my kickstarter campaign, but it just made me work harder at promoting it. Its a lot more work then I thought, but I'm getting a lot of support. I think a lot of people are lazy and like to procrastinate, so if they know they have a few weeks to donate, then they are in no rush to do it in the beginning.

Well, I'm no expert, but if you're interested in feedback from a broader cross segment than just experts, I would suggest that you take a look at the Kicktraq data for your project:

After all, thus far, your project is in pretty good shape, I think.

For the amount of shares that your project has, I think that it's doing pretty doggone good, myself.

KickTraq made me depressed ...(well, for my first project at least)

From my own projects (and most other project come to think of it) I have found KickTraq to be a little optimistic.

Well, okay, wildly optimistic - at least in the beginning.

On Kicktraq right now (as I type this) you're projected to reach $16,968

24 hours from now it'll say something like ...$15,500.

48 hours from now it'll say something like ...$14,500.

72 hours from now it'll say something like ... $14,000.

    And so on...

The first time I followed my own project I was kind excited about the KickTraq projections - but quickly realised that, for most projects, it's not a great predictor at all.

Kicktraq is great, and very useful. But, if you're using it to predict the future of your project, then you might as well use tea leaves. Past data doesn't guarantee future results.

I will be using Kicktraq as much for the credibility it gives to backers, rather than the trend line

    Cheers,

    Andy

P.S. $2k in 2 days sounds pretty good!!

I think the conversation is changing its course from talking about my project to discussing why or why not kicktraq is good :)

Well, if it is a very narrow and focused conversation that you want, your initial question that you posed was: Do you think its a failure?

As worded, it seeks a yes or no answer. My response to that question is: No.

That doesn't give you much to work with, though. The devil is always in the details, where problems are concerned.

You want experts to advise you about your project's progress within the first 50 hours of a 31 day campaign, juxtaposed against the example that your mentioned, the one where you read somewhere.

    Somewhere.

What can happen over the course of a 31 day crowd funding campaign? Quite a lot, actually. But, even then, it just depends upon wide range of different factors.

But, if what you are after is a yes or no answer, then my two cents on the subject would be a firm, "No."
