My best advice is to treat it like a full time job. You have to promote your Kickstarter daily and to the right crowd who may have an interest in your project. If you have a big following on facebook like I do then definitely look into a service called http://www.greeninbox.com

they sent a letter I customized to most of my fb friends(over 3000) over a span of 6 days..It cost $120 to do this but it was well worth it and I got that amount back and wayyy over it. Facebook is where about 85% of my backers came from. only about 7% directly from kickstarter directly,

Some other people I know have had some success using reddit.com and promoting their projects there in the dedicated places...I tried there but I guess my type of project wasn't real popular there.

I also tried that backercamp twitter thing but I didn't see any real results from that. So I wouldnt recommend it.
