Marketing Prior To and During a Campaign

    by vang0330 » Mon Jun 16, 2014 2:03 pm

Majority of the articles and threads I've come across pertain to marketing prior to starting a campaign. Are the strategies still the same if the campaign has started already? Plus, typically what is the duration between the start of marketing to the start of campaign and why not just add a few more days to the campaign? I'm always skeptical about people's attentiveness to follow marketing news prior to product release, and then supporting the product on release date.

I"m curious as to how soon you should market your product before a campaign begins. Are there any guidelines ?

People are always excited to be getting in on the "ground floor" of a project as soon as (or even before) it launches. I think it's a smart idea to start building anticipation for the campaign a few days before you start (I did three days, but one week would have been better in retrospect) through your own social media. For example, an instagram or Facebook post counting down each day before the campaign. Then definitely make a big deal of the actual launch date. You will usually reach friends and family who know about your product with these types of posts and hopefully get them to pledge during the early days of the campaign. When the campaign has already begun, always try to take advantage of your milestones (1 week in, 25% of funding reached, half way through the campaign, etc.) to make announcements to your followers. Hope this helps!

My campaign has reached 72% of its $20,000 funding goal with 7 days to go.

I started marketing month before starting campaign. On facebook and by sending press releases. I think i lost backers because they went to my webpage and noticed that campaighn is not live yet.
I now have overall 700 facebook fans. Articles on many journals and websites. Including The Times and national TV channel in Finland made a 10 minutes interview.

But I still got incredible low traffic on Kickstarter campaign page! Only 2700 visitors. Good thing is that I got 215 backers. I think it is quite huge that every tenth people who have visited on page have made a pledge. It have been live now for 4 days and is 15% funded of 70 000$.

I wish I found this article before I started my campaign. I talked about making it several times, but I didn't officially post a big countdown or anything. I only made announcements the day of and got 3% in one day, but only from family. I have yet to receive any other donations.
