Just thought that I would chime in, and share some recent thoughts with you.

    Always welcome,

The crowdlogs data is a little dated, currently listing your project at 17 backers pledging a total of 623 pounds. Your Kickstarter project page shows your project to currently have 29 backers pledging a total of 1,005 pounds

    I will check that out
Charles wrote:Here's something about the Crowdlogs data, though. Of that figure, 72% of the pledges at that point were for 50 pounds or more. That signifies a certain degree of strength of support.

That is because I have a time-limited reward aimed directly at the orchestra members - a signed and personalised, first edition score - for 50 pounds. Only available at that price for the first 72 hours.

Charles wrote:On your Kickstarter project page, your project is currently listed at 133 shares. That aspect of your data isn't a bad start. I would encourage you to keep doing frequent updates. So far, your Comments section has only a single comment, and it is from this forum's very own admin, Salvador Briggman. The Updates and Comments numbers are not meaningless, Andy. I see so many Kickstarter campaigns basically treat those numbers with disregard. Personally, i think that the higher those numbers are, the better off your campaign will be.

Update is easy to do - but how do we increase shares and comments? By asking backers to comment?

Charles wrote:KIcktraq lists your project as a 29 day project. I think that you may end up leaving a lot of cash on the table, as your footwork ahead of time will bear fruit beyond that time, if allowed to thrive. But, that's merely a comment in passing, since you can't change that at this point.

Kickstarter research shows that projects under 30 days have a better chance of succeeding - that, plus the fact that we need to get the piece written and rehearsed before the premiere on 7th December, somewhat forced my hand.

Charles wrote:The Kicktraq data is current for your project, as I look at it, right now. Your project needs an average of 482 pounds per day to succeed, at this point. I really think that the numbers-to-date at this early juncture in time are not good indicators of where your funding will end up at. The bulk of your core crowd hasn't made its impact, yet.

Kicktraq data is a little frustrating at the moment, as we are not in sync - £14.500 over 29 day campaign is £500 per day - in less than 48 hours we are £1090 - £545 per day - but according to Kickstarter and Kicqtraq we are on day 3 so £363 per day! That will even itself out over time, but bit disappointing when you go to bed trending success and wake to trending failure

And you are right that we still have a lot of inertia to overcome from supporters - which is time-consuming to say the least - glad we have a team on this - I don't know how sole project creators cope!!

    Cheers

    Andy

    Frustrating Day Yesterday

.... not helped by having aching joints and a sore throat!

I have been listening to the Ryder Cup and both team captains have been talking about 'Momentum' - that is something that we have not been able to achieve yet - it is fabulous that we are getting a lot of PR and loads of Social Media, but we haven't got the momentum that is forging the project forward!

    Our latest News coverage:

    Pride of Birmingham Awards
Tonight we are playing at The Pride of Birmingham Awards and we are trying to get some traction from some of the stars who will also be there like Toni Iommi (Black Sabbath), James & Oliver Phelps (Harry Potter's Weasley Twins), Laura Mvula and a host of others.

    Andy,

Your talk about momentum reminded me of an article that I wrote about momentum, a good many years back, for a play by mail game that I played. Since you are concerned about what you perceive to be your project's lack of momentum, here's a link to that article, if you should take a notion to read it. Just scroll down to the Battle Tactics # 6 section.

I would encourage you to take special note of where that article advises: In any instance, momentum, while important, should not trump wisdom, when making your kingdom's decisions.

I'm pretty sure that Kickstarter didn't even exist, when that article was written. As the author of that article, I assure you, portions of it are quite applicable to Kickstarter projects.

I can tell you this, your project is not totally lacking in momentum. Your project page says that your project has 177 shares. Trust me, that is not an insignificant number. To me it isn't, anyway, not when I compare it off the top of my head to who knows how many projects that I have looked at on Kickstarter, over the last several months. While it is good to have actual backer numbers and actual pledge numbers, as those things provide project creators with a certain degree of comfort, not being comfortable is actually an advantage - if you will but embrace it.

You're intimately familiar with music, so let me frame my next comment in musical terms.

Imagine, if you will, that backers are people, and that pledges are tickets to a concert. Shares are the music. Some shares are brief notes. Others are particular instruments. As project creator, you are the conductor.

Now, some would assume the role of conductor to be little more than a guy waving a stick around, contributing naught to the music that is beginning to play.

You're into what, your project's fourth day, now? A crescendo is something that one builds to. It does not transpire at the beginning.

While it is true that momentum is no less important to waging a successful war than tactics or strategies are, as I wrote in that article all those many years ago, likewise, both strategy and tactics play a role in the ultimate outcome of a campaign - and not just momentum.

Be patient. Be methodical. Be persistent.

Do not fall prey to mistaking the individual battles of particular days - even the early days of a crowd funding campaign, for the war.

What ultimately matters is the outcome of the war, not the hour, nor even the day, that momentum finally rears its head.

Be ye of good faith, Andy. Yours is a noble cause. You fight a just fight. You champion a greater thing!

    Plus, you're not alone.

@charles Wise words indeed - in mid-promotion at the moment, but will reply in more detail when I have a second
