Yes I think they all do that to get your attention. Just face the facts: if you want to do some marketing then you are going to have to pay some money.

Definitely a conflict of interest if you use their marketing for any backpacks or anything else they do their own kickstarter projects for.

If they want to show off reviews, then they should use gmaps or something. A website they control means that they can delete any review that they want to.

"Guaranteed Success" is a vague term. Is $1 raised consider to be success? It could be, unless success is clearly defined. If they are guaranteeing you will meet your goal and then asking for any money upfront, then without a doubt that is a scam.

What kind of question is this, of course they matter. Reference checks are the only way to see how good a company is. Not really, sometimes it is hard to get ahold of the executives to perform the check of references. Especially when you've got a live campaign running - you can't wait weeks to hear...

I am in agree. But also you don't need cnn - there are tons of tech blogs that are worth getting into as well.
