I have had this happen to me. In the final 48 hours of the project (so far), I've had 5 backers cancel.

Again, I know it's their money, but it's pretty tough to stomach.

Amazingly, the number has stayed pretty consistent. We have 93 backers now, and 21 cancelations. Given that means we totally would have had 114 backers without the cancelations, this means we've had about a 19% cancelation rate. I've learned that people are naturally very skeptical and untrusting. Remember that crowdfunding is all online and it's much harder to sell people on your idea when they have no physical interaction with you or your product, so you must work twice as hard as a to bridge the gap to earn people's trust.
